Events & Our Project Space

by Gemma

In the last couple of weeks we’ve been hosting or running events for professional development for creative types.

So firstly we had our first session from David Haden, founder of Creative Stoke. Who took a small but perfectly formed group through the in’s and out’s of self-publishing and e-books.

Here’s is what a couple said about the session:

A most comprehensive talk about the modern technology and what it can do and how to access it, it is good that you have found people willing to share their knowledge with those of us who are just starting out. Thank you

and:

Excellent summary and updating of subject. Presenter’s own practical experience v. valuable.

The session was fully booked and we’re thinking about running another, more condensed session in March. To express an interest just contact us.

We also have a visit from the fabulous Helga Henry who ran a tailored training session based on her courses under her ‘Metapod’ title. We had a range of people looking to set up there own creative business and now are on the right tracks.

Some of the things Helga talked about can be found on her blog: www.helgahenry.com

Here is a bit of anonymous feedback from the session:

As the group was small it was great to be able to talk about my business. I thought Helga was great for making examples pertinent to individul business ideas and making sure noone’s idea was left out.

and

It helped me clarify my thinking and find starting points.

So thanks to those who came along, and thanks to Helga for coming!

Some particularly relevant information on her blog I think is this here.

As always we host Life Drawing every Wednesday at The Exchange – to find out more and see more great images by clicking here.

We have lot’s coming up in the next few weeks as part of DATfest and Stoke Your Fires – so please check back for details/join the mailing list or ‘Like’ our Facebook or follow on Twitter for details.

We’ll schedule workshops and continue to look for opportunities to host events – but the project space in the shop is a place for you to test out ideas or run your own event. Why not come along and see what’s possible!

One more thing…don’t forget this FREE Event – Total Artwork! from Switchboard.

On Sale & Studio: Marcus Wemyss

by Gemma

Marcus Wemyss is currently based at The Exchange. He is currently working as a studio artist, whilst assisting with the management of The Exchange and working on personal creative projects alongside artist collaborations.

life drawing classes being the first. Marcus is keen to create  more community interest and Adult learning  groups here at The Exchange.

This is Marcus says about himself:

“My work is very painterly and expressive applying oil to canvas thick and fast, creating allusions of texture and movement. I paint the world as I see it and more often than not as I think it should be. As such there is also a heavy element of impressionism in my paintings. I paint because I want to ask questions, to provoke reactions, to spark discussion or even debate and to test boundaries. The main themes of my work include natural forms, the human figure, relationships the erotic and the ridiculous. Examining the nature of attraction and repulsion”

To see his work on display and speak to the artist in person. Visit The Exchange.  Marcus is available for commissions.
