More about the project and Anoushka:
I am an Artist working on the Place Space and Identity Project that is running across Stoke on Trent this summer. I am working in particular in the Middleport, Longport and Dalehall areas and over the next few weeks I am going to be creating a Fabric Walk. It is going to be a large scale temporary artwork that will aesthetically transform the area. Based on collected stories and memories about the are I am going the making a new route through the town , mapping it out by wrapping natural and urban features in Fabric.
‘Fabric Walk’ explores the idea that sewing, wrapping, repairing, folding, covering are inherently caring and restorative actions and combines this with the the act of walking; a physical challenge to the occupation with speed and having to get places fast.
Short Biog
Anoushka is a multi-disciplinary artist with a background in theatre design. At its heart her work is about telling stories that connect our imagination with the environment. The world we inhabit from the proximity of our bed to the wall, to the volcanoes in the pacific make us who we are. Through hand-made objects, drawings and interventions into the landscape Anoushka seeks to reconnect with this world: approaching it from the view of an explorer seeing it for the first time and turning its naive qualities into something strange and wonderful.
Since graduating from Central Saint Martins with an MA in Scenography, Anoushka has undertaken a broad spectrum of projects in the UK and internationally. Work has included The Barber of Seville in Mexico – awarded city prize for best scenography; the performance walks Mobile Machinoeki and Fabulous Walks in Devon and her first solo exhibition at the Wellington Arts Centre, New Zealand.
