On Sale: Jon Brayford

by Gemma

The Exchange has new stock from Photographer Jon Brayford. Below are the images of the work and his descriptions of the work.

Shatter

Shatter is composed of images photographed at the now derelict Longmans meat sales factory near the new Tesco development in Hanley. Many hundreds of animals where slaughterd here and as a long time vegetarian i wanted to convey a feeling of destruction both of the building itself and of the lives lost.

Lost

Lost was inspired by Miltons poem (Paradise Lost) but is intended to be more of a comment on how we have lost touch with ourselves in a rapidly changing world.

About Jon:

I am a photographer living and working in Stoke-on-Trent. I am primarily a landscape photographer I have exhibited work at the three counties at Keele University achieving several awards and sales. I have recently been exploring new techniques in digital art which are represented here in these two new works.

The work will be available to see on our full walls this week – why not come in to see them for yourselves. Both priced at £70.00.

On Sale: Charlene Holmes

by Marcus

Charlene’s paintings are now available for sale.

Her work deals with themes of waiting and Autumn. Her piece “Autumn” draws inspiration from the linear abstract forms of Mondrian executed in lustrous Autumnal shades to evoke feelings of the changing of Autumn and distorted light shining through the leaves of a tree. “Forna” is a beautifully painted study of Autumn Leaves a post stamp of various plant life composed to form a woodland scene.

Here’s what the artist has to say about herself:

“I have painted and drawn all my life. I studied at Leek F.E and Staffordshire Polytechnic. I am a full time Artist and find that I cannot wait to get up in the morning to develop a new painting”

Come and see her work for yourself.

On Sale: James Beattie

by Gemma

The Exchange is please to have a collection of James Andrew Beattie’s work on sale. Below are a couple of images from his site and more information about him:

Born 31st January 1990
Hometown – Alton, Staffordshire
Currently studying Digital Film Production at the University of Gloucestershire.
And initiating designs for a clothing brand, as well as working on several short films and photo zines.

I never seem to take a lot of photos, but when I do, I guess I do it for the memory.
I prefer to record light in a true and stable manor, preserving a viewpoint from where I once stood or sat.

I thought I’d share a couple of quotes which help define the subjective motives behind my work.

“I was like a child, constantly wondering and surprised at nothing”

“There is nothing as mysterious as something clearly seen”

On Sale: Denise O’Sullivan Ceramics

by Gemma

Denise O’Sullivan Ceramics is a Staffordshire based company designing and making Denise’s collections of the finest Bone China, English teaware, tableware and ceramic gifts created in her hometown of Stoke-on-Trent, England.

Growing up in Burslem, the mother town of ‘The Potteries’ Denise has had a passion for ceramics since a young age which has naturally led her to pursue her love for ceramics, creating ceramic forms and surfaces.

Denise’s background of hand made and industrial ceramic processes and design, allows her collection to bring energy to any household, using print, hand decorating and lustre glaze application. Her designs are inspired from her love of kitsch, fashion, Englishness and vintage styles, combined with traditional English ceramic forms.

“For the new collections I am using the concept of pick and mix ceramics. The pieces are all designed so you can pick out pieces and mix them, as you want, to create you own bespoke collection.”

Designs include pink and mother of pearl flamingos, black, gold and platinum skulls, blue, pink and black English roses and a variety of hand made cup cake trinkets.

One of the most important designs for all Denise’s work is her ‘Made in Stoke’ back stamp. She is passionate about contributing to keeping ceramics in Stoke-On-Trent and by collaborating with local artists & industries she believes that her work will not only contribute to the local economy but will also help ensure that the ceramics industry is kept alive in Stoke-On-Trent.
